Free recreation of Phaedra and Medea,  two of the most fascinating female characters of universal cultural history. Playful and at the same time “profound” reflection on fortune; on jealousy and guilt, passion and forbidden love. A tragedy in verse with all of the genre’s classic elements, but interspersed with laughter. Because in every terrible story there is a paradox that can lead to comedy; and on the contrary, at the bottom of all outburst of humour there is an element of tragedy.
The group Las Niñas de Cádiz work to merge the roots of popular cultural elements and folklore with others from the so-called cultivated tradition, always on the basis of humour. “For us, humour is a way of observing, understanding and feeling life…It is the heritage of Cadiz, millenary land whose idiosyncrasy inspires us: “Speak to the world from your village”, as Tolstoy said. Our name is itself a statement of principles: the puellae gaditanae, very famous dancers and singers of the Roman Empire: popular, irreverent, provocative free women artists.”
