IV ciclo ANVERSO/REVERSO
Ingmar Bergman

36 Festival de Teatro de Málaga

PREMIÈRE
4th OBVERSE/REVERSE Series
Ingmar Bergman

The Anverso/Reverso [Obverse/Reverse] series was created in 2016 as part of the year’s events commemorating Cervantes and Shakespeare, with the idea of reviewing the contemporary aspects of their work through a series of monologues written by well-known authors from different artistic backgrounds with the objective of giving new meaning to a work of reference. Following the third edition of the series Anverso/Reverso centered on the creativity of Gloria Fuertes’ poetry, this fourth edition deals with the fertile legacy and influence on our culture of Ingmar Bergman, Swedish filmmaker, playwright and stage director.  Monologues by Ricardo Menéndez Salmón, Aurora Luque and Roy Laguna will recall the director of Wild Strawberries on the centenary of his birth.

Length 20 min. each monologue (without intermission)

Regreso a Patmos
[Return to Patmos]

Author Ricardo Menéndez Salmón
Performer Juan Antonio Hidalgo

Shut away in an old house to write his ultimate work, a writer confesses his phobias and angers, his wishes and desires, his few convictions. His words describe literature as a failed endeavour and at the same time as the only possibility of achieving, if not wisdom or happiness, at least the consolation of lucidity. Because writing is always being, like St. John the Evangelist, in the Patmos of our discontent.

Media hora con Ingmar
[Half an hour with Ingmar]

Author Aurora Luque
Performer Toñi Martín
Anna, Bergman’s occasional lover and supporting actress in some of his films, plays a mad, cyclical and never-ending chess game with the Swedish director's ghost world. The board’s pieces are the pieces of life. Anna feels death approaching and settles old scores with Ingmar: she thanks him for his role as the dump of European souls. Only the game of theatre will give sense to this posthumous bergmanian  dance of death that one of its survivors performs before the audience.

Ingmar Bergman y la muerte
[Ingmar Bergman and death]

Author Roy Laguna
Performer Miguel Muñoz Zurita

A few hours before dying, Ingmar Bergman reflects on God and death together with Liv Ullmann, who played one of the main roles in Person. Convinced that death is a liberation instead of an end, Bergman conducts an autobiographical overview from the point of view of those who claim to know him and from his own, confessing that he has never been afraid of death and confirming his conviction that God does not exist. This text on based on his own words, taken from the few interviews he gave during his life, and on the comments of family members, friends and colleagues.
