The siblings Hansel and Gretel have been abandoned by their parents, who are unable to feed them. Lost in the forest, they arrive at a fabulous candy house. An old lady invites them to come in; but she turns out to be a wicked witch. She locks Hansel up in cage to fatten him and then eat him, and forces Gretel to do all the house chores, until they finally escape.
Hansel and Gretel come to life in Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera that is staged by La Tartana with more than twenty different puppets , and all sorts of techniques, lights, shadows and colours: flowers turn into fairies, cuckoos emerge from tree trunks, giant  snails play with children and witches fly on their brooms to the moon.
