Colectivo Danza en Málaga will celebrate International Dance Day with a multidisciplinary and interactive performance at Plaza Jerónimo Cuervo, Teatro Cervantes’ main façade.
Dancers will perform different dance techniques and disciplines as they mingle with passersby, moving them from their daily routines to a dancing celebration.
“Colectivo Danza en Málaga was founded in April, 2021 as a network-based platform of dance professionals in the province. The group’s actions are geared at giving visibility to our art, our work and our impact on culture. This is the objective of Danza de Abril Málaga, with which we celebrate our group as dancers during the whole month, and very specially on the 29th.”

In 1982, the International Dance Council of UNESCO proposed celebrating the International Dance Day every year on the 29th of April, which is also the birthday of French ballet dancer Jean-Georges Noverre, considered the maestro and creator of modern ballet. The objective of International Dance Day is to pay tribute to this universal and diverse artistic discipline, bringing together all the persons who have chosen this form of expression, without cultural, political or ethical barriers.
To commemorate this anniversary, every year the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, in its capacity as the founding body, selects a special personality to write a global message on occasion of International Dance Day. In recent years, this message was written by Julio Bocca, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Israel Galván, Trisha Brown and Karima Mansour.
