The diversity of the popular pieces of this programme will highlight the great technical capacity and musical taste of an exceptional soloist, the Venezuelan trumpet player Pacho Flores. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas is a symphonic scherzo inspired by some verses from one of Goethe’s ballads with the same name. Escualo is a diabolical tango for violin composed by Astor Piazzolla in 1979. Pablo Flores will also interpret Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachiana brasileira nº 5, composed in 1938, and then go back to Piazzolla with his tango Invierno porteño, a tribute to the famous concerts Vivaldi dedicated to the seasons. His performance will finish with Aires gitanos by Pablo Sarasate, a piece that requires spectacular virtuosity.

The Fantasy on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaughan Williams contains some variations on a theme written by the British Renaissance composer for the book of psalms of the Cathedral of Canterbury’s first Anglican archbishop.

Pines of Rome is the second symphonic poem of the "Roman Trilogy" of the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi. It was composed in 1823 with a purely descriptive intention, and was first performed in the Eternal City on the 14th of December 1924.
