Tchaikovsky’s Fantastic Overture, Op. 18 "The Tempest" can be considered one of the repertoire’s most interesting symphonic poems for its extraordinary descriptive expressivity, for which the composer was awarded in 1885 the prize created by the publisher Mitrofan Beliayev to recognize annually the best Russian symphonic work.

Interpreted without interruptions, the Cello Concerto no. 1 in A minor, Op. 33 by Camille Saint-Saëns was composed in 1872 and premiered on the 19th of January of the following year by its dedicatee, the Belgian cellist Auguste Tolbecque, at the Paris Conservatory Concert Society. This piece/work is a model of formal balance, sonorous clarity and technical knowledge.

Inspired almost entirely by some sketches/drafts of his opera The Fiery Angel, Serguei Prokofiev wrote his Symphony no. 3 in C minor, Op. 44 in 1928. The gruesome thaumaturgy of its four movements is a reference to the diabolical nature of its plot, and reveals the special descriptive character of his music.
