Mariza, who started to be acknowledged in 1999 following her participation in the posthumous tributes to Amália Rodrigues, is celebrating her 20 years of musical career with a record that pays tribute to the diva of fado, who would have been 100 in 2020. Mariza canta a Amália is a show with the repertoire popularised by the famous singer of fado and “a way to honour and thank everyone for the legacy and inspiration she left:”
Born in Mozambique, Mariza grew up in Lisbon’s Mourania neighbourhood, the cradle of fado. In 2018 Mariza, who is UNESCO Ambassador for the preservation of traditional fado, won the Portuguese-Spanish Prize for Art and Culture that the Ministries of Culture of the two countries award every year, for her “successful fusion of different rhythms that contribute to tearing down borders and bringing audiences closer together”.
With this new work Mariza is starting on a new tour, in the footsteps of Mariza (2018), with which she participated in Terral at the Teatro Cervantes.
