For the first time, all the characters that have filled the particular universe of ‘El Selu’s’ Chirigota (comic carnival band) in the course of the last 30 years, and which are currently part of the collective memory of several generations, have come together in a story with a plot ranging from old-fashioned customs and manners to the very latest trends.
A different approximation to carnivals, a direct connection with an audience that is not exclusively carnival going based on humour, criticism and sarcasm. With El Selu. El musical, José Luis García Cossío ‘El Selu’ (Cádiz 1962), one of the most valued and awarded active authors of the Carnival of Cadiz, innovates once again using the carnival as the starting point of a journey with his chirigota that takes us with music, staging and a libretto to the dramatization of his beginnings.
