The most successful love story of all times, conducted by Plácido Domingo and starred by Juan Diego Flórez and Aida Garifullina, two of most acclaimed present-day opera singers.
“For Domingo, opera is as important as air; it keeps him alive. With over 3,800 opera performances, 147 productions and more than 550 times at the podium. he ‘is the definition of opera’” (Der Standard). Juan Diego Flórez, the lyrical tenor of bel canto of our time, makes Romeo shine, reaching the high notes with great effect and taste. No one in the audience will succeed in containing the tears when Flórez devotes his last monologue in front of Julia’s tomb. His companion in this production, the young Russian soprano of Tartar origins Aida Garifullina, is equally powerful as Julia. Her voice “is so light and seems to be made of marble!” (Die Presse) and succeeds perfectly well in dominating the colour and expressions of the role in Gounod’s opera: “This Julia is enchanting!” (Kronen Zeitung).
