General debut of the soloists Montserrat Caballé, Natalie Dessay, Carlos Álvarez and Juan Diego Flórez in Laurent Pelly’s production, performed at the Opera of Vienna in April 2007.
Pelly placed the story at the beginning of the 20th century, creating a parody of comic opera with a fantastic collection of visual effects.
“The quality of the artists makes this a must-see, must-hear show.” The Times
“The audacity corresponds to the brilliant Pelly, who respects not only the charm of the period but also its romantic innocence.” The Financial Times
“A truly spectacular evening, something we had not seen in years.” The Guardian
