ATALAYA IS THE WINNER OF THE 2008 NATIONAL THEATRE AWARD
Elektra’s strong emotional component stems from the fact that ‘vengeance’, its principal leit motiv, has survived over time as the origin of many conflicts in the history of Humanity. The purpose of addressing this myth is not to tell Elektra’s story, or to have spectators identify with one character or another, but rather to provoke in the former the catharsis caused by emotions they cannot feel anywhere else or at any other moment of their daily lives.
The chorus sets the rhythm and emotional tone during most of the performance. In this sense, the ethnic chanting and the choreographies are more powerful than the characters themselves.
