Thierry Malandain brings on stage a character that belongs to collective imagination, at times in the form of a caricature. Marie Antoinette’s passion for the arts, theatre, music and ballet is less known that her love of parties, dancing and adornment. She was the patron of many artists, liked to sing, played the spinet and the harp and participated in various comedies. But the role of her life was undoubtedly that of heiress, and later Queen of France.

Thierry Malandain’s idea of dance is absolutely personal. Author of more than 80 choreographies, he continues to create a coherent repertoire in which the priority is the dancing body, its power, its virtuosity, its humanity and its sensuality. Since 1998 he has been at the head of a group of performers who have a perfect command of classic ballet, but whose expression is contemporary.
